Cream of tartar, an ingredient often present in Western kitchens and menus, is a powder known as potassium hydrogen tartrate. Cream of tartar is actually a sediment that you can get from the bottom of a wine barrel (but it’s not alcoholic), as it forms while the grape juice ferments. This acidic by-product is then refined and turned into a powder – cream of tartar.
Cream of tartar has many rather surprising health benefits, some of which we’re going to talk about today.
1. Quit Smoking
Cream of tartar can help you remove nicotine from your bloodstream and affect your taste regarding cigarettes – in essence, it can make you dislike their taste. Just mix one teaspoon of cream of tartar with a glass of orange juice and drink up.
2. Treat Urinary Tract Infections
If you often suffer from UTIs, cream of tartar may help. This powder changes the urine’s pH levels, banishing infections and inflammation. To consume it, mix one and a half teaspoons of cream of tartar with a glass of warm lemon water. Drink once a day.
3. Lower Blood Pressure
Today, most people struggle with high blood pressure and low levels of potassium. If that’s you, cream of tartar could help. Packed with potassium, this powder can solve your potassium deficiency problem and lower your blood pressure (but first, make sure you actually check if you have low potassium levels). Just mix one teaspoon of cream of tartar with one cup of water and drink up.

Cream of tartar is rich in magnesium, which can help with muscle, joint and arthritis pain and reduce overall inflammation. To relieve the pain, draw a warm bath and add 2 tablespoons of cream of tartar and 3 tablespoons of Epsom salt. Relax in the bath for about 30 minutes.

Because it reduces overall inflammation and helps the body detoxify itself, cream of tartar can also help with inflamed acne. Mix one teaspoon of this powder with a glass of water or lemon juice and drink every morning.
