Let’s face it – no one is a fan of sweat. However, our sweat glands produce sweat for a reason – it is our body’s mechanism to keep itself cool and prevent it from overheating during hot weather, exercise, stressful situations, etc. In other words, sweating is a natural process, required for optimal body functioning, so fighting it is not that great of an idea.
Instead of trying to stop our body from sweating, we should simply try to reduce its unpleasant odor. For those wondering, this unpleasant odor occurs when sweat mixes with bacteria – if it wasn’t for bacteria, our sweat would have no smell!
Usually, to stop excessive sweating and reduce their body odor, people will reach for antiperspirants. But as mentioned, trying to stop this biological process from happening is not a good idea. Instead, we should focus on using natural, safe methods to reduce unpleasant body odors.
Lemon, a safe and natural product, is not only great for eating and drinking, but for controlling body odor as well. Lemon’s citric acid helps lower the skin’s pH level, which helps it fight against odor-causing bacteria. On top of that, lemon’s citrus smell is very pleasant.
Baking soda has many health benefits, including the ability to reduce the body odor. It absorbs moisture and sweat from the skin, helps keep it dry, destroys odor-causing bacteria and just like lemon, lowers the skin’s pH.
The best way to use these natural ingredients is to mix them together. Here’s how.
- Add one tablespoon of baking soda into a bowl.
- Squeeze fresh lemon juice and use 1 or 2 tablespoons for the recipe. If you have sensitive skin, dilute it with 1 tablespoon of water.
- Mix the ingredients together – the end result should be a smooth paste.
Use this natural “deodorant” on dry armpits. Apply it gently (do not rub!) and let it dry before putting any clothes on.
