If you’re trying to lose weight, you’re probably familiar with the holy trinity of weight loss: exercise, clean diet and less stress. But what if you’ve been doing everything right but that stubborn fat (belly fat, anyone?) seems not to budge? Not to worry, there is a scientifically proven, completely natural and safe method you can try that is guaranteed to help you shed that excess body fat – and it comes in the form of a commonly used spice.
Cumin, the Fat Burner
Researchers at Shahid Sadoughi University of Medical Sciences in Iran have conducted a study involving 88 overweight women. The participants were split into 2 groups: for 3 months, both groups had their intake of calories reduced by 500, but group number 1 also had 3 grams of cumin added in their daily diet.
After 3 months, measurements took place: the women in the cumin group lost 13 more pounds than those in the non-cumin group. But what’s even more impressive is that the cumin-group women decreased their body fat by a whooping 15%, which is the triple amount of the control group!
However, the benefits of cumin do not stop there; it was shown that those who consumed cumin also had their triglycerides and LDL (bad cholesterol) decreased.
Furthermore, regularly consuming cumin also leads to improved mental health, better sleep and digestion and decreased overall body inflammation.
How to Consume Cumin
In the study, the women consumed a tablespoon of cumin (3 grams) mixed with 140 g of yogurt. So this is definitely an option that anyone can try.
However, if you’re not a fan of bland snacks, you can just add lots of cumin into your meals: for example, mix cumin powder with a bit of a garlic, paprika and chili powder and add it as seasoning to your favorite spicy dish. Just make sure you’re using no less than the recommended amount – 3 grams.
