The Best DIY Hair Masks for Dry Hair

Do you spend good money on shampoos, conditioners, leave-ins and other hair products but still struggle with dry hair? Do you spend time blow-drying and doing your hair but still end up with frizzy and dull-looking hair?

If so, no worries – dry hair is one of the most common beauty complaints. The good news is that there are numerous DIY remedies that can hydrate and moisturize your hair, bring back shine and make your hair bouncy and easy-to-manage. Here are three of them.

1.    Avocado Hair Mask

This hair mask’s main ingredient is avocado, but we’ll also use EVOO (extra virgin olive oil) and an egg yolk. These ingredients are all full of great fats that will moisturize your hair and combat frizziness and dullness.


  1. ½ avocado
  2. 1 egg yolk
  3. 1 tablespoon of EVOO

Mash the avocado in a bowl, add the yolk and EVOO and mix in well. The mask should be well-combined with a smooth consistency.

Apply the mask on your wet hair, from roots to ends. Let it sit for 20 minutes, and then rinse and wash with a gentle shampoo.

2.    Yogurt and Honey Hair Mask

For this simple but effective hair mask, you’ll need three ingredients: yogurt, honey and a bit of almond oil. Yogurt contains protein which will regenerate your hair if used often; almond oil is nourishing and moisturizing and honey has the ability to lock in that moisture and add shine to your hair.


  1. ¼ cup yogurt
  2. 1 tablespoon of honey
  3. 1 teaspoon of almond oil

In a bowl of yogurt, add honey and almond oil, mixing the ingredients well. When the mask is well-combined, it’s ready to use.

On wet hair, apply the hair mask and leave it on for 15-20 minutes. Rinse with warm water and wash with a gentle shampoo.

3.    Coconut and Banana Hair Mask

Like the rest, this mask too contains three ingredients: coconut oil, banana and coconut milk. Bananas help hydrate your hair and nourish it with a variety of vitamins and minerals. Coconut oil is incredibly nourishing hair oil and one of the few oils with the ability to penetrate the hair shaft. As for the coconut milk, it’s highly moisturizing and nourishing and will add bounce to your hair.


  1. 2 tablespoons of coconut oil
  2. 4-5 tablespoons of coconut milk
  3. 1 banana

Mash the banana well and then mix all the ingredients together. Depending on the consistency you want, you can add more or less coconut milk.

Apply to wet hair, let it sit for 30 minutes, and then wash with a gentle shampoo.
