4 Natural, Effective Treatments for Receding Gums

Although quite serious, receding gums are actually one of the most common dental complaints. This may be due to the fact our modern diet is severely lacking in key nutrients, vitamins and minerals, or due to inefficient or too efficient dental hygiene, or finally, due to our genes. It’s estimated that about 30% of the population is simply predisposed to gum disease, which if left untreated leads to receding gums. But interestingly, another cause for unhealthy gums can be a little too ‘efficient’, harsh teeth cleaning routine.

Whatever the cause, know that untreated gum disease and receding gums can lead to severely sensitive teeth, loose teeth, pain and discomfort and finally, loss of teeth.

Luckily, there are some things you can do in order to prevent or reverse gum disease, depending on your current stage.

1.    Green tea

Praised for its high antioxidant content, green tea is not only great for your teeth and gums but for your overall health as well. Studies have shown that consuming at least one cup of high-quality green tea per day decreases gum bleeding, periodontal pocket depth, while improving the appearance and function of the gums.

2.    Vitamin C

It’s a well-known fact that deficiency in Vitamin C can lead to all kinds of health problems, including inflamed, swollen or receding gums. The good news is that you can reverse these signs of gum disease by consuming lots of Vitamin C-rich foods, such as lemons, oranges, grapefruits, kale, broccoli, etc. You can also take Vitamin C supplements, but don’t overboard.

3.    Aloe Vera

Aloe Vera is considered a superfood, so consuming and using it topically is sure to improve your health. Studies have found that applying aloe vera topically can soothe inflamed gums and promote oral hygiene. Raw aloa gel is excellent, but so are mouth washes, toothpastes, sprays, as well as supplements.

4.    Eucalyptus

Eucalyptus is an anti-inflammatory substance with germ-fighting abilities. Using it topically can help you fight gum-causing bacteria and promote gum and teeth health. Using eucalyptus essential oil dissolved in water can significantly help your receding gums.
